THE BUILDING FOR THE FACULTY OF ART, DEISIGN & ARCHITECTURE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG

Project Description
The site is located between Annet Road and Bunting Road in Auckland Park.
On completion houses the nine design and art departments, which consititute the Faculty.
The total area of the new building is just over 18,300 m2.
The building comprises of two blocks grouped around a triple volume central atrium space.
The slope of the site made it possible to have the studios and workshops on stepped levels with a half a storey in height difference allowing less steep connecting ramps so facilitating easier circulation.
Additional facilities for public use include the library, exhibition gallery, coffee shop and 260-seat auditorium, are located close to the entrance.

SCHOOL OF TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG

Project Description
The new school is prominently located at the eastern extent of the Auckland Park Campus at the intersection of Annet and Bunting Roads, and constitutes 6,200 m2 of educational facilities.
The development is structured into three buildings around an open landscaped court to encourage student interaction.
The Kitchen Training Block incorporates the commercial end of the school with a selection of public restaurants and a Conference Centre fronting a covered colonnaded terrace. The restaurants overlook a new piazza which will be used by the University for major student exhibitions.
Four restaurants have been incorporated into the building to offer the public a wide range of culinary experiences and flexibility for a wide variety of planned events.
The restaurants comprise of a 60 seat fine dining facility, a 100 seat bistro, a 20 seat private dining room, a 10 seat cigar lounge, a wine cellar and a pub associated with a lounge area which forms part of the reception area.
The teaching facilities consist of 17 lecture rooms, sized to flexibly suit each curriculum’s requirements.
To complete the multitude of teaching formats, a 120 seat auditorium is located adjacent to the lecture rooms for larger presentations and public functions.
